This piece promotes social capital as President Obama is encouraging Latino voters to engage in political and civic participation. The President's efforts to promote positive social capital is shown through his encouragement to get Latino voters out there, because Obama is "president, not king" and he cannot change things himself. He is trying to discontinue voter apathy and inspire Latino's to come together.
This piece does little to almost nothing to promote social capital. It exposes the vast divide between Democrats and Republicans, and it shows that rather than working together to come up with solutions to issues, both parties are already vying for votes and numbers in the 2012 election. The lack of participation and engagement from both sides to mutually tackle the issue of immigration is what hinders social capital here.
The writer focuses on the perception of Latino's being affected by illegal immigrants. He points out how illegal immigrants are hit harder by recession, but are able to recover more easily because of their desperation to work. Although the writer is writing from an outside perspective, he goes into enough depth to cause a worth discussion.
This article's main focus is on the Hispanic perspective on illegal immigration. It's informative because many people do not know where exactly Hispanics stand on illegal immigration, and this piece does a good job touching on those facts. This article also does a good job showing selective exposure, as I'm sure many Americans do not think of the Hispanic perspective too often when forming their opinion's.
This is a great example on the perpetual uprise of restrictions for illegal immigrants. This story doesn't go as in depth as it could, but it touches on enough facts to definitely cause a discussion. This story is institutionally framed as it shows the affect of putting a restriction on illegal immigrants attending school.
This review points out the flaws in Whitman's decision to fire her maid because if she is such a supporter of anti-immigration, she would have turned her maid over to deportation. This review is framed by exemplifying Whitman's personal responsibility as such a strong supporter for anti-immigration.
This article opened up a great table for discussion in my opinion, and that is alternative theories to the 9/11 attacks. I think that the writer should have gone much more in depth to find out why the Iranian President was compelled to state such remarks, but in my opinion he must have a reason for it. This article set off many more questions that I had before I read it and I think this whole situation should be opened up for discussion.
The article touched upon the importance of climate change and the future issues the perpetually increasing population will face, but it did not go into any details how. All the article seemed to stress was the individuals taking part in the meeting. The article did not provide any further understanding to the issue. The article did not clarify any questions I have on climate change, and it made the issue seem like almost a mystery. This article did not provide me with any facts or points of reference.
