My only question: why isn't this story on Page One of the NY Times? I do disagree with Marshall on one point. Other journalists aren't necessarily stupid (however, some clearly are)-- they may just be doing what they are paid to do-- eg their boss's will. That said, I do get really sick of content-free discussions on tv-- even MSNBC which is the best of a sorry lot. Talking heads speculate endlessly about what will happen or what is somebody's motivation-- just one unsupported opinion after another, usually about something that is trivial anyhow, and containing no information. Go, Marshall!

It lays bare the BAD journalism that is the rule nowadays. Alas, we just have to live with the fact that the mainstream media is skewed to the right, and every democrat is going to have to deal with these unfair distractions. The key is to counterattack swiftly and strongly, unmasking their tactics.

This piece has a lot of impressive charts and graphs to show print coverage of various issues. But they did little analysis on the quality of the stories-- they mainly counted them. And the quality of the coverage is where the rubber meets the road. Election coverage, for example, has been extensive but practically worthless, focusing on the gossip and the race itself. So the reader knows little more after reading the piece than s/he did before reading it. The article also didn't show how many stories were copycat journalism. At least the print media aren't as bad as tv about inflicting us with celebrity gossip disguised as news.

Good as far as it goes. But it doesn't bring up the big question: how can the National Democratic party disenfranchise a whole state for something outside the control of the Florida democratic party? And even if they Can decide whose vote counts, WHY would they do something so punitive and so controversial? Is the democratic leadership, as I have suspected for some time, really working for the GOP?

yes-- too bad that American media can't perform as well; I wish our presidential hopefuls would respond to this information.

writer has a good grasp of the obvious. societies do not TOLERATE inequality; they guarantee it. It's the shit, not the cream, that rises to the top. The ones who get ahead are those who have a better understanding of power, and how to use it, and the game is always rigged in favor of the guy who doesn't play by the rules. He just laughs at us shmuks who do play by the rules--all the way to the bank.
