I think the crux of this story is calling into question the validity of religious moderates who don't act according to every word of their holy books (because they have more sensible modern beliefs about the world) but believe that one should act according to those book and that our leaders should. There isn't a middle ground - you either believe we should obey these books or not. I was suprised by Dawkins comment: "How much do we regard children as being the property of their parents?" Dawkins asks. "It's one thing to say people should be free to believe whatever they like, but should they be free to impose their beliefs on their children?
