David Corn, in my opinion is a journalist of the highest calibre

I have always felt that the term "war of terror" was a very vague and open-ended way of describing the fight in which we are engaged. We are engaged in a battle against a far-flung enemy that is disparate and not supported by any particular government. While I believe the president will probably continue to use the term occasionally, I think he will try to change the tone of the description overall. Of course, only time shall tell. After all, what he calls it and how he fights it ... More »

Bush was apparently so inexperienced and over his head with the job as president, that he relied heavily on those who worked for him. He apparently does not have the patience for great detail and kinda feel in line with the arguments and proposed actions that were sold to him by people who knew exactly where his buttons were and when and how they should push them. Cheney caused, in my opinion, the most damage and seems to have had no trouble essentially running the foreign policy of the Bush administration. This article describes, by people with heavy knowledge in the various fields being discussed, the machinations of how interested parties got their way through the president.

This is a reasonably honest assessment of the damage the Bush administration has done to the country and the virtual cost of the past eight years.

Newspapers did try to adapt to the online world rather early, but failed in the imagination department. Now we are beginning to hear of both small and large newspapers discontinuing their print editions in favour of going totally online. People are beginning to look to their iPhones or other media device to read their "papers" as well as keep up with the news on an instant basis. I do not think print newspapers will disappear tomorrow, but perhaps within 5-10 years they will be mostly history.

As the editor of both an online and print publications of interest to the Jewish community, I fully understand Ms. McArdle's feelings about being caught between a rock and a hard place with this subject. I always try to take a balanced view in my writings on the situation, but no matter which way I turn, I am blasted as being anti-Palestinian or anti-Israel, or worst of all anti-Semitic, which is a hard accusation to take when you devote most of your waking life to promoting Jewish interests.

Obama either made a blunder in underestimating the reaction of the gay community and its friends when selecting Rev. Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration, or he is intent on living up to his policy of inclusion in his administration. Of course, having Rev. Warren at the inauguration does not mean the man will have any real influence on the president's policies or decisions. Although I think Warren was a bad choice, I am more than willing to overlook it, if the new ... More »

This is a very unusual situation for generally boring Canadian politics to present to the public. In my opinion, it is outrageous for the Prime Minister to prorogue Parliament strictly for the purpose of avoiding a vote of non-confidence by the house. I was quite surprised the our Governor General agreed to ascent to such a request. According to my understanding, Parliament should never be interfered with if it is for the purpose of protecting one particular party or government in ... More »

I believe Hillary Clinton will make an excellent Secretary of State. It seems to me that if President-elect Obama is asking her to accept this high-level position in his cabinet, they are both satisfied that she can and will articulate and implement his foreign policy. Of course, Hillary is a strong personality, and I have no doubt she will openly discuss he possible disagreement with the president should that become necessary, but ultimately they will reach accommodation, and she ... This is an urgently important story dealing with a disgraceful situation. The media should publicize this administration's true lack of support for our wounded heroes. Whenever the president talks about how she supports our troops and spares no expense for the safety and well-being, this report and others like it should be put in front of his face.

Gallup is generally considered the grandfather of all the polling services, although I have heard stories over the years that they skew Conservative in their questioning. Overall though, I believe they are fair and objective with the questions they ask, and their methods of reporting their results.

This is a first-hand account of a young man in the allegedly "manliest and most macho" branch of our military, and yet, after being frightening to reveal himself, finally came out to his fellow Marines, and they all said it was no big deal. This along with the quotes of major military big-wigs and well documented stats to show how attitudes within the military has changed, presents a compelling reason for why the government should re-think and remove its bans on gays serving openly in our military. The story is not biased in the sense that it does discuss the issue openly and explains how feelings and perceptions have changed over time, and how younger generations, and those with better education are realizing how being gay is ... Jane Fonda makes big news stories, especially when it comes to her anti-war views. Although, she developed a rather negative following due to some of her anti-war exploits during the Viet Nam debacle, this time she is with a cause that is shared with the vast majority of Americans including military families. It's true there are other people in the public eye who are taking an active role in this anti-Iraq war spectacle. But Jane has a very special cache about her for obvious reasons. She cannot help but draw huge attention to yesterday's rally and to the cause itself. I am glad the Washington Post picked up on the significance of her appearance, and yet did it in a way that did not glamorize Jane Fonda as a star, but merely ... More »
