This is not an example of the strongest piece of journalism because it's not even really newsworthy. The whole point of the article is who isn't running for the campaign where as a strong article could have been to cover who is running for the campaign and mention that he is not despite rumors.

Melanie Losover Comment:

Good point. I think people in Baltimore would be more interested in hearing about the candidates who are running rather than read a whole story about one person who isn’t running.

This story was very factual but many of the facts were missing citations. For example, where did the author get the facts about the effects of led paint on children? Some of the figures the authors mention were also not cited. A few of the sentences were too long and were too complex than they had to be. Overall, the article showed good insight into the problems facing housing in Baltimore.

This article does a good job of depicting Governor O'Malley's plans for cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay by partnering with those familiar with green technology. The article put the plan in words that anyone could understand, which was helpful in what could be a complicated situation. I would have liked to have seen a quote from the Governor about his thoughts on what really needs to be done to save the bay.

This article does a good job of showing how one of Baltimore's "cleaner, greener" initiatives has been truly successful. The quotes from the Circulator's riders add a personal feel to the story. I would have liked to seen a quote from the mayor about how she feels the Circulator has helped in making Baltimore a more environmentally friendly city.

This story provided an interesting perspective of how abandoned and vacant homes are being rehabilitated, along with the neighborhoods where they reside. It has good sourcing from residents who live in the neighborhood that is being rehabilitated as well as quotes from people who are involved with the process of rebuilding these houses.

I like that this article has both text and the video of the WJZ report that aired on television. I also like that the author got quotes from a BWI traveler and the delegate who introduced the bills to have slots installed. I would have liked to hear from people who are against slots at the airport and perhaps a representative from BWI.

This is a very thoughtful story, which provides a unique perspective on how the city is working to help those affected by the recession while utilizing green methods. This story is well sourced and has different perspectives, which make it a well-rounded and informative piece.

This article describes a tax credit initiative that well help rehabilitate abandoned buildings throughout Maryland while using green building practices. While the article was definitely informative and got right down to the facts, I would have liked to see a little more detail behind each of the projects and how they will benefit each community. It was good that the author was able to get a quote from Governor O'Malley and another expert, but I would have liked to hear from someone living in one of the communities that is to benefit from this program.

This article is very thorough and includes a lot of facts, but it did not have any quotes. I would have liked to see some quotes from experts on the topic of food deserts. This reads more like an informative text than a news article/report.

I couldn't say whether or not I trust this publication because the source was not listed. This article was short but sweet (excuse the pun), but I would have appreciated more quotes; maybe one from a Share Our Strength representative. Overall it was a very basic article and I would like to see it expanded.

This article is unbalanced and doesn't try to show how the Brazilian workers feel about the issue; it simply assumes that they are all illegal and insinuates that they are looking to cause harm to the community. It relies heavily on comments left by readers on editorials posted online. The only thing close to an expert source are the editors of the Martha's Vineyard Gazette and the writer did not even speak to them directly. The writer did not dig at all and seemed to rely on a basic search on the Martha's Vineyard Times and Gazette's Web sites to get their information.
