This article grounds student government by presenting the gender gap,-- or the lower involvement of females in student government than males--and keeping the forms of leadership on college campuses in question.
This topic is super interesting, and as the author states, "...precise figures were unavailable," with respect to the percent of female student government presidents at four-year colleges. One reason for the insignificance of not having these precise figures may be that, "...women gravitate to leadership of clubs or causes more in line with their career goals instead of jumpint into what they might view as a boys club." Who is to say that being the editor in chief of the school newspaper is any less diplomatic, any less ... More »
“People who track student government say the gender gap is often reinforced by fraternities that vote en masse for male candidates.”

It is good to hear that this legislation still has to get through the Senate. Drawing opinions from both Republican and Democrats this article is reflective of America's divide along party lines. This article could be enriched by more information about the budgets and prospective revenue streams for NPR in the event that this legislation is passed.

This is a good recap of what seemed like a very interesting panel discussion about long-form journalism. Similar to the NYTimes instituting a new form of paying for journalism, the digital outlet for news is changing aspects of how we communicate and receive information across the board.

I reviewed this article as poorly sourced because I am sure there are other sites out there hoarding profile information in their servers, not just Facebook. Additionally, I reviewed the story as unfair, because jobs are not the only things that are at risk when everyone's business is posted across the internet, what about relationships? What about insurance companies using pictures as proof of unsavory (=$$) behavior?
I stated "No" to trusting this publication only because it is the first time I have been to this site for a story.

Both the opposing sources and the author of this article draw out questions and shortfalls, which might otherwise be overlooked by the non-science reader. This allows for a better understanding of the subject of epigenetics and how it is tested and evaluated.

It is good to know that editors are not interpreting readership data and changing their subjects, but rather contemplating different forms of content (video, long and short, photo galleries, etc.) within the digital medium.

I think this is good journalism insofar as childhood obesity is an issue that deserves attention. Reading this article provides piece of mind, as in my opinion many of NPR's articles do, that this issue is being addressed by institutions such as the University of Washington and the Center for Sleep at Stanford.

While the article provides a clear context for the authors argument, the context for the movement toward "sustainable"--"organic, local and slow," is superficial and short sighted.

The trouble with this article is that the counter sources provided not only fail to speak to the explicit argument against spending money in a city whose belt is already pulled tight, but it also seems moot b/c if-so-fact-o a college degree is as necessary as a high school diploma, why isn't everyone provided the opportunity for it.

I completed a full review of this piece because I wanted to give it a five for being "enterprising;" that is, the broad range of views, from Senators, to military officials illustrates that the matter at hand is bipartisan, going outside of the political walls that distinguish the political left from the right.

Many news articles on NPR impress me with their ability to present issues that, for the most of us, seem irrelevant and present questions that upon first glance seem to have clear cut solutions; as in this article, which takes the safety of hot dog eating for children as its primary concern. It seems fair to exclude hot dogs from a child's diet for a number of health reasons, nutrition is the first one I thought of. However, taking a closer look at safety as a real health issue, Popovich informs readers that there is a National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, that would protest the idea of "redesigning" a hot dog in the name of safety. The sources and commentary that this article provokes compels me not to forget that I ate a hot ... More »

This is a very straightforward article. Luckily for Nasaw, Blackwater's habit of making bad moves, allowed him to illustrate the groups blatant disregard for protocol. clearly. Nasaw's facts are accurate, concerning Blackwater's previous crimes in Iraq as well as the ambiguous affiliations of Paravant. Compared to other stories that cover this hearing, Nasaw's tone is balanced allowing the sources to speak for themselves.

'New York Times' Unveils Metered Online Paywall
When will they ever learn? Create a pay site and people will simply go elsewhere. To this day I still have a problem going to NYT's site because of their paywall for the content I wanted (editorial and opinion). Unless the price is related to the extra costs involved in disemination as the price of the print edition has been for over a hundred years, it is simply a money grab.
How urgent to you suppose a revenue source is for NYTimes?
