The article at face value begins as an objective profile of Palin but soon morphs into a tool of manipulation by these conservative writers to yield a typically partisan attack on Obama.
The article leaves the reader with a 'so what?' attitude about an issue that is considered (by people outside the US) to be among the most important concerns of our time.
The questions raised in this article are supremely important ones to raise by the Press and by the American public before the US blindly moves full speed ahead toward another front of this mindless and irresponsible war.
This is an op-ed peice, but it is informative in a way that pure journalism should be. The article sheds light on the congressional complicity (albiet passive complicity) for the current war and for an apparent looming war on the horizon. The article serves well to remind readers where real power lies within our democracy and who shares in the decisions that have led to American wars of agression.
What seems to be lacking in this story any analysis of the well- organized opposition to Mr. Carter's book, including the manner that many highly placed Democrats are distancing themselves from the former president's views. No one seriously questions the former President's ethos on this issue. Carter has been recognized for doing more to promote peace in the Middle East than any other American president before or since he held office. And he has stated that he believes peace remains an obtainable objective, but it requires honest negotiation from all parties and a willingness to bring about a just peace. So who are Mr. Carter's American detractors and what motivates their attacks on his position?
