The article went very in-depth into the acts of the current immigration situation. the author talked about acts taken by the Obama administration as well as the Bush administration. It also talked about the Arizona bill and other immigration laws and essentially gave a play-by-play of the current immigration situation. The author includes many attention-grabbing statements, including surprising statistics and quotes from senators and other political authoritues. This article mainly talks about the political side of immigration, as well as a bit of the economic side. as well. I believe that this article hinders the idea of social capital, because it states a lot of the problems with the current immigration system and that there ... More »
The author of this article,Lou Dobbs, was very opinionated and very persuasive in his opinions. He used a delicate balance of the artistic proofs to help argue his case. He used a combination of logical arguments, as well as instilling fear in Americans and trying to persuade them to take action to better the current illegal immigration situation, urging the reader to acknowledge the fact that the country needs to secure our borders and to spread awareness to put a stop to the mass amounts of illegal immigrants in America currently so that the working and middle class do not have to cover their living expenses in taxes. He uses sharp, opinionated statements such as "...the U.S. immigration policy is a tragic joke at the expense ... More »
I think this is good journalism because although it seems heavily biased (after all, it is an opinion piece), it also states facts about the immigration bill in Arizona, and the author uses the facts behind the bill to base her opinions off of. The only thing that the piece is lacking is direct quotes, because it is solely about the author's opinion on immigration law. Because of this, it does not necessarily have a high amount of transparency. There are really no sources to sight, simply pieces of information and Chan's view on them. I think that despite this, she does have a good balance between agreeing and opposing sides and delivering news and information, and subtly adding her take on them.
The article is very informative, it gets the point across through facts, evidence and quotes from credible sources such as senators and representatives. I think all in all this is a pretty reliable source to become informed of the current issue on citizenship laws that target the children of illegal immigrants. The article uses specific facts and information to back up its main idea, that 14 of the 50 states are working on legislation to deny U.S. citizenship to children of illegal immigrants. The article explains that they are in the process of changing the law, although they don't know the exact plan of action yet. The article mostly includes quotes and statements that agree with the changing of the 14th amendment, although ... More »
The article gave some information, but seemed to lack context. Since I personally am not following the oil spill, some brief background information of what's been going on would be helpful. It does cite the head of operations for BP, who is a credible source about the oil spill and does say how it happened and what they're trying to do to fix it, albeit minimally. I can't help but feeling like it's lacking information. I feel as though something's missing from the article and it leaves many questions unanswered. What exactly are they going to do to fix the damage? What were the "eight seperate failures" that led to the accident? The article tells us some information about what's going on with the oil spill, but doesn't seem to ... More »
The article was informative, although it din't go in-depth and was very short and succint. However, I felt this article was a good piece of journalism because it didn't go on and on and waste time with unimportant quotes and information. It was straight and to the point and only included relevant facts. It also wasn't biased at all, which ensures that it is a good piece of news. It was well-written and easy to understand, and wasn't too wordy. It explained certain complexities of the issue, but only skimmed the surface. Like I had mentioned before, it didn't get too in-depth, but delivered what needed to be said about the healthcare reform. I like how to-the-point the article is, although it doesn't say a whole lot about the ... More »
