Carrie Johnson quotes quite a few interested parties in this artcile; hence, the article allows different viewpoints a voice. Sources range from Sean Gerlich, an applicant who was turned down, to House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, with a few others involved in the hiring process and investigation of such. This story is significant, as it is a fundemental opportunity that should be granted to those whose work and accomplishments are merit based, and not based on political bias or past affiliations.
I enjoyed this article, as it allows the reader to step back and take a look at the big picture of how the English language is changing in the United States. Although the article does not explore the myriad of other langues besides the Chinese influence on English, my guess is that the author has more knowledge of Chinese; hence, he focused on this one aspect. The transformation of the English language is self-evident; consequently, I don't think the lack of sources is very detrimental to the quality of this article. I do think additional research regarding the world's influence on English would be welcomed, especially if it includes research on all cultures (not just Chinese) that have had significant influence on it.
This article has numerous quotes from first hand sources and I think the author must have had first hand knowledge of many if not all of the quotes. At least, that is how the author portrays this report. There is quite a few statistics and data presented, as well as quotes inside and outside of Obama's campaign. I think this story is well written, organized, and interesting.
I don't think this article provides much evidence to back the authors assertions, nor does the author reveal the sources of the information presented. Additionally, the author assumes the reader has familiarity with organizations and acronyms responsible for regulating carbon emissions in Europe. Also, I found the use of words seldom used like chortling and intransigence distracting from the points the author was making.
