There's a lot going on in the first paragraph. It'd be nice to break it up a bit. I like that he provides some more historical context near the end, but I'd like to see more sources.
The post is a good diving off point for a group of stories affecting the state of online news revenue this week.
I agree that the paragraph at the bottom about the NYT policy for its own staff is what changes the quality of this article quite a bit.
The stories and examples the author chooses are effective in being unsettling. I'm interested to hear more on the technology and his philosophies on that specifically, but I'm not sure if that would be good in this piece or another entirely.
