Someone's getting lazy. It is labeled as an editor's blog, however it looks more like a post you'd find on a website like tumblr.com. The fault line it seems the author is taking is one as a fellow member of society, not as a whistle blower or an extremely biased blogger. However, this is not an effective fault line to follow. As a reader I was looking for someone to show me an educated view on the Latino for Reform ads.
The intent of this writer is clear, it is clearly defined as an opinion piece. And as such, for the purposes of promoting social capital this article shines. It is obviously an attempt to convince the reader to support immigrant rights here in San Francisco and to demonized the immigration policies enacted in Arizona. While the article itself isn't the most interesting piece, the comments left by readers on the articles page are all the more interesting. The article has definitely sparked discussion and that's what I find most admirable about this opinion piece.
Great article on the harsh truth faced by the Obama administration. With disillusion becoming a common theme amongst the ranks of democrats and liberal voters everywhere, this article promotes social capital by reminding voters, through the outreach made by President Obama to the Latino community, that change doesn't happen over night. In addition to this, it effectively displays the number of voters available who are not voting. It is the opinion of this reviewer that the writer of the article is very interested in trying to convince Latino citizens to vote-- promoting social capital.
While the information was is all here I cry "poor story telling." Factual and dry writing is the new trend when it comes to online journalism. Yet, this article attempts to mask itself as a in-depth story while really just stating the facts. Fine for informational purposes, not a good read.
NewsTrust has this article under the Opinions category yet I don't see it as that. What I took out of the article is a well written, factual, thought provoking story. While the article itself is obviously biased toward the Latino Immigrants it is the biased that one can view as acceptable in our society, a bias for the public good.
This article seemed to use the institutional news frame. It did so by questioning the integrity of the East Haven Police Department (the institution). I thought it was appropriate because from the evidence shown and the opinion of experts and witnesses the problem is with the entire Police Department and not a few persons. Of course, the article could have been just as effective had it been written in any of the news frames.

It is the opinion of this reviewer that this article is written in the structural frame. I come to this opinion after a lot of thought because I couldn't really place a finger on it, as it is written so factually, I had trouble finding an actual frame. While I would say that the frame fits for the story told. It leaves the article feeling very dry.
