This is a really nice personal look at the new media situation in Barcelona. It brings to life the cultural ritual of buying a print publication and the setbacks to going digital like the lack of free available WiFi. Although, I'd like to see a bit more information about Spain's newspapers' Web sites and how they compare to more digitally advanced locales.

This story seemed to be pretty standard, and doesn't really say much that hasn't already been said for many months during the presidential elections. There is some good context given about how the Web has changed the political discourse, but generally the democratic candidates in this piece come across as petty complainers, which may or may not be a fair conclusion.

If you can get through all the data and percentages, you'll probably learn a lot from this article. Well sourced, it tries to make the information easier to grasp by breaking up the issue into several subtopics, but for someone who knows very little market lingo it seemed a bit over my head. Nice headline though.

This Op-Ed is nicely written and provides a good overview of the current situation relating to the worldwide food crisis; however the politics gets in the way of the "What should be done" about the problem. And the lack of attribution leaves a lingering question mark over the factual statements.

This article is a fairly balanced look at the riots and provides a bit of context as to the history that has led up to the extreme action and how a few vandals turned the protests into riots.

This was a fairly easy to read New York Times article that provided a good amount of context and explained the economic situation in China in a personable way with two interesting contrasts. It loses a few points for not being all that balanced, but overall shows the economic threat that China is quickly becoming to the Western world.

A dry report, most of the information is unattributed and biased against the protestors with adjectives like "rampage" and quotes from Haiti's prime minister saying, "We know that these demonstrations have been infiltrated by individuals linked to drug dealers and other smugglers." Reuters had a much more fair account of the riots.

This is a really interesting look at the riots caused from food shortages from a different perspective. While not the most coherently written or fluid article, it provides a ton of examples and history leading up to the most recent outbreaks of protests.

This article is a comprehensive round up of the food shortage across the globe. A bit confusing at times when it talks about fuel and gas prices, but otherwise an interesting read.

This was a fairly informative article about the unrest in Africa caused by rising food prices, but the story is a bit dry and fails to show a more personal side or the bigger picture of how the unrest in these areas may affect the rest of the world. However there was good context as to the history of famine in Africa and I thought this was particularly interesting, "Because food represents a larger share of what the poorest consumers buy, a global increase in food prices has a bigger impact in Africa than in other emerging areas such as south-east Asia."

This video is a nice round-up of the coverage of the wheat crisis from television news sources from around the world. More a montage of clips than an analysis, the video puts into perspective how different cultures and countries are being impacted by the price inflation.

The lack of sourcing contributes to our inability to rate the accuracy of the article. The story also lacks cohesion which makes it hard to follow and absorb information. Our combined lack of knowledge prior to reading the article makes it difficult to say whether the article is accurate, especially since we can't even verify where the statistics come from due to the lack of sources.

Sharply rising prices have triggered food riots in recent weeks in Mexico, Morocco, Senegal, Uzbekistan, Guinea, Mauritania and Yemen, and aid agencies around the world ... More »

Good attempt at trying to give what would otherwise be a dry story some heart, but it seems too limited in its information and one-sided as it talks mainly about the eldery.
