I thought the journalist got this article half-way right. He discussed the fact that the principal is using behavioral strategies and Direct Instruction to increase student achievement but what about the rest of the subjects. Direct Instruction teaches a child to read but children also need to be able to comprehend, analyze, infer, and then write clearly and concisely about what they have read. In order for children to perform on the MSA they need to be able to answer Brief Constructed Responses and Extended Constructed Responses in Reading and in Mathematics. How is City Springs meeting the needs of the children in those areas? The author mentioned the AYP requirement of Attendance. He did not mention the attendance ... More »
