the best and surest way to sabotage america is through it's banking system. A small number of megabanks lead primatily by a small cultural clique control over 60% of the economy. By manupilating backbone cash flows in let's say the home loan industry you could swing whole economic sectors into dperession. Then you could move to deflect criticism because of america's sensitivity arund the 1930s into saying without you the economy (which you wrecked) would collapse. then the govt ... More »

Metzler has excellent comments until the end and the he suffers a significant memiory failure - that of bank bailout sna dthe bollions that went into in thepockets of a small cloque ofbankers that then starved the market of the credit that the govt could have used to reroute investment - $200 billion in taxpayer binuses to line the pockets of bankers doesn;t get a mention.

This story like others in the media accepts the myths of the story without question. There is no healthcare bill - there is an attempt to change federal laws relative to insurance companies and cut medicare expenses - this is not healthcare. Insurance is a price support - it does not make you healthy. We do not need more coverage - we may need lower costs for bloated med svc and big pharma. This is a bailout porgram for the med industry like the bank bailout. Why we get some ... More »

This story like so many others continues to promulgate the myth of economic meltdown and the need for the stimulus. Whatever economists were bought and paid for by either side the facts are very clear - the real need for the Fed to bailout the major "to big to fail" banks was totally bogus and quite possibly fabricated to ensure that the fin execs kept their jobs and made millions in bonuses off the back end and the front end. They sucked all the avaolable credit out of the market ... More »

no - total drivel - the guy is in fantasy land move over glen beck.

THis guy must ne on meds and he ios trying to make a reality that just doesn't exist. Obama is a failure as a leader and has turned outmarginal as a politican but great ss a motivational speaker - the worng guy at the time. I guess facts just aren't this author's style and 10.4% unemplymnet, $2trillion deficits, massive disenfranchisements and disillusionemnt, billions in banking bonuses, failed stimulus plans and fiancially bankrupting legislation aren;t enough.

this type of piece always makes it clear that we should never trust pols and their functionaires - never. They will do anything, say anything to stay in power and by staying power they lose any empathy with a normal person. If it wasn;t Rangel - we'd bein jail. You know it and I now it.

For all those who are interested in how our governemnt sells out our values behind closed dorrs and why you should not vote for 1900 pages of drivel being passed off as heal;thcare - this is it. Nutritional supplements are not included and all medicines are derived from them but an african witch doctor can mumble over you with a bunch of beads and deductible. It's ctiminal it's even in the IRS code.

Hopelessly biased in favor of the legislation - the wod uage in the content is alnted and when you compare this against the facts and other articles in this there is no mention of teh taxes on individual and small busienss anlt the "soak the rich" idea. It reads like a fact from Pelosi's office

Once again astory lacking definitions. penalities means taxes - so this bill hikes taxes on small business and individuals. Why not just say that? No mumbo Jumbo. What are the CBO prjections that produce no budget impact in the first 5 years? These pieces do not provide analysis of impact - they are bland comments

It seems they cherry picked untruth from oppometslike death panels that was obviously nonsense and shyied away frm an evaluation of cost, taxes, etc. as major drivers. I do not know what a givernemnt takeover means but more rgualtion, expanded medicare, forcing people to buy a prosuct or face a tax saounds like a takeover to me.

Never listened to Rush either but this is good editorial speech. If it had been on the Jon Stewart show - it would have received great ratings. Does he go a little overboard - sure but a lot of it is meant for rapid comic delivery value.

The questions here will continue to dog Obama. How long can he use the race card and point to some wackos and that's the opposition. Mainstream is exactly as pictured here - whipped dogs of the white house but they were also the whipped dogs of the previous white house. Polarization happpens when the middle has so little credibilitiy. Mantsream deserves complete credit for its own destruction.

I find it interesting that we have an onslaught of this type of stries but no background on the gross negligence of doctors in recommending treatments. In Chico CA they found one of the leadin cardio vascular surgeons in the country had done hundreds of heart stint ops. Most, if not all were unecessry but the hosp ok but they were profitable - this is what drives up insurance rates and if you were paying out your pockets would get stingy fast from doc, drug and hosp fraud. Is it quality journalism - given what I see and read in the media - this ranks up there with genius. Jon Stewart skewers with the best of them. Take no prisoners Jon and make no favorites.

Talking about costs honestly and what you get for the money and what does it achieve are critical for understanding - the dems are clearly in lockstep to do something at any cost to the country's economy - not sure why because no one is talking about medical services as a business.

It is not only inaccurate but invalid to compare a dense, homogenous population with unifying cultural, nutritional, etc. patterns to a demographically diverse, geographically disparate population. Our population is not even remotely similar. Typical media broad brush brainwashing, you;d see this even clearer if you's been to the Nether;ands as I have - totally different lifestyle orientaion.

While I am against Obamcare - I find this article to be affront to common sense. It is important to remeber inthe medical services business, doctors are the costs pivot point. Theyare not interested directly in your personal health. At best they are interested in making sure you get the right med svcs that you can purchase from them - drugs, ops, tests, etc. They are in business and anyone that questions their costs structures is standing between them and their patients. Thye are estalishing a price control mechanism for insurance companies, doing take backs on Medicare and rasing taxes. While the forgiveness migh a touchy feely word, I believe the concept of making good lifestyle choices for you can change your health is correct. Prices in the emdical services market would collpase if we could manage demand for unecessary services through conepts like this one, good nutrition, exercise. The majority of what drives the demand for medical services is not the hard luck cases you read about but the day to day demands placed on the system by the reprecussion of poor ... More »

While I believe Krugman is correct in his thesis he is over broad in his application. Obama has done nothing but reenforce a negative image. From "change" to his business as usual reality. He has given away billions in bonuses to bankers destroyed the property valuation market (HVCC), $700 pork barrel stimulus, no jobs, 10% unemployment, and now the black hole/death star of healthcare - which won;t cost us anything. To date - no one has defined what a public option will entail, what does it mean, what wil it cover, etc. it is difficult to underscore the amount of gray that the dems have put into this issue instead of focusing on positive effects for the quality of healthcare. I find these articles illuminating - backroom players, etc. it is a critical part of investigative journalism. But issue articles miss the big picture of context. If the econ was humming would this movement exist? Is this movement's success actually a reflection of Obama's policy and leadership failures. Instead of seeing things/issues as standalone, many times they are parts of a holsitic picture. In the 30s there was Father Coughlin but FDR kept all that under control with ... More »

Another opinion that has the analytical rigor of a 10 year old. It is always important to remember biases - doctors sell medical services and drugs for a living - that's what their business entails. 200,000 people die in hospitals due to poor hygenie practices - that's 4 times the fictitious 45k - does that mean we need more or less people in hospitals?
