Typical McCain "journalist supporter" story! Flashing McCain POW years as the crown jewels of a "known commodity" to conclude that his core principles are better than Obama's and he can be excused of issues flip flopping is a false argument that leads to a false conclusion. True McCain has refused his captors to be repatriated, true that McCain has shown pride and honor to his captors but this doesn't diminish Obama's character and principles and make McCain error proof candidate that can hide behind his POW record. Obviously Obama can't match his record but can match his character and surpass it, he has an entire life ahead of him. Speaking of McCain character check out the story in Daily Mail from "My research" links.
"People now realize that prices may come back down, but they're not going down to where they were" - the mantra of the article and all of us. The CAR era as we know it is gone for good even if we will see more hybrids and the millage increased by the government or not. Ethanol is not a solution either to maintain the flow of the cars on the highway. A massive conceptual and inherited social habits change is needed. Mass transit/public transportation is something to be consider LOCALLY, state by state county by county. This will not be easy to implement due to people reluctance to it and population dispersion in USA but nevertheless should be consider. Maybe a combination of hybrid buses and trains that will avoid driving to the ... More »
A well written story about the "darkness" of the commodity futures market, oil trading in particular. The speculative nature of the market overwhelms. in my opinion more than ever, the so called "natural regulator" role of it. "Demand and supply", could have been lots of years back now is more and more controlled "demand and supply". And guess who is using this? The hedge funds that make millions to the million+ club member not your lame 401 K fund that basically funnel your money into their profits. All kind of "financial vehicles" popped up on the market (gee, there has to be a reason why financial stocks are not recommended now) and obviously the "innovation" continue. Everybody expects government regulations to do the job ... More »
Not only good journalism but militant journalism. Patenting could be "very important" for making money but there is no room for it when it comes to address the food problem of the world. Monsanto and others in the business of GM crops do not solve the problem just compound it by basically "enslaving" the farmers if there politics succeed. Never mind destroying the all ready existent bank of seeds developed by mother nature and farmers along thousands of year. Never mind the unknown effect of GM crops on people and environment. Mind only the PROFIT. We all should reject the current policies and interests of companies like Monsanto. This is not to say that we should reject in totality the research done until now, just actively ... More »
My problem with this article starts from the beginning of it - a daughter of a military family is trying to defend the "honor" of John McCain against the "same people" that "famously swiftboated John Kerry in 2004". Did she wrote a SIMILAR article in 2004?? I doubt it. From my perspective the McCain years at "Hanoi Hilton" should be part of the PUBLIC record and debate it VIVIDLY by ANY groups of people, specially the Vietnam veterans. I have seen clips from Senate auditing the POW issues where McCain is just trying to quite the lady representing POW families in the most rude way. If I am not mistaken he killed HR 3603, Truth Accountability Bill, although it passed the House with a vote of 401 to 0.. These are facts but ... More »
I am not exactly sure who's the "multitude" of white women without gloves that Froma writes about, but I am sure that she doesn't speak for Peggy Agar, the Detroit reporter that got the "Hold on a second, sweetie" answer from Obama. Not only that he apologized but he kept his word and gave her the interview. Peggy said that she has no problems with "sweetie" why you Froma??
I believe that this story didn't get the attention that really deserves. John McCain Vietnam War record should be researched and scrutinized to fully understand his character.
A "contrast" story that is somehow informative, most of the facts are already known. The suggestion that John McCain was raised on daily "military strategies" talks is a bit too much, similar true for Obama's father "idealism" that influenced the young Obama. "Military defined" McCain and "idealistic" Obama is what the article drives to, in both cases there is not enough analysis to make the case. The privileged McCain flew 10-11 hours of combat missions and spent 5 1/2 years as a prisoner. These years are IMHO the defining years for McCain and we do not know too much about it.
