Before I was first published, a colleague said "be prepared to make enemies." It seemed unfounded. Wrong. In the toxic political environment in which we live today, the same is true of the news. I am a national security and strategic planning expert from the Washington DC area. Experience includes military strategy in low intensity conflict, international defense industries and WMD proliferation. Area expert on Pacific-Rim nations, Russia, and Middle East/S.W. Asia.

This story is far from the best I have seen on a growing problem for the US-Karzai in Afghanistan. Regardless, it worth noting the following: Karzai has become a profound problem for the US given the strategy moving forward-a combination of military and diplomatic moves-intended to stabilize a most unstable government. It has become increasingly clear that Karzai thinks he owns the entire country and can do with it what he wants. Not so, nor will it remain as such for long. His ... More »

The entire David Frum affair-his firing from AEI-is a sad commentary on the state of political discourse in America. Frum made the terrible error of committing an act of truth and for his efforts the brethren at AEI tossed him. How sad, however I disagree that Frum is the Bill Buckley of our time. I do see some parallel's in the fact that Frum has become a "fellow traveler" of those "terrible Democrats" or so the dogmatic claim. , By rejecting the comments of one of the most ... More »

Note: Col. Larry Wilkerson was Sec State Powell's Chief of Staff and in a position to have direct knowledge of the Gitmo problem. This story is unsurprising, but disturbing. While Congressional Testimony and depositions of DOJ, State and DOD officials provide a compelling body of information, only a handful of GITOM prisoners were involved with al Qaeda/terrorism. Col Wilkerson;s testimony on the facts of Gitmo are above reproach as is he. 9-11 was a terrible day, but “any ... More »

Political Analysis- This plane crash has serious consequences for Poland on a number of levels. A power vacuum exists as the core of leaders-both civilian and military-died in the crash. Of immediate concern are constitutional questions that will determine the state of internal stability. International problems loom large because of this disaster. Poland's NATO ties have clearly been disquieting for Russia since their formation. The question of locating American ballistic ... More »

Although Mike Moore is a loose cannon, Larry Wilkerson is likely one of the most credible sources-period. The spin on this article is typical Moore: Waste the source and interject your personal-less than well informed views-but he get credited for talking with the right person in Wilkerson. The seminal moment in the Bush tenure is 9-13: The date of the first NSC meeting where Rumsfeld told Bush that although the attack was formulated in Afghanistan, invading Iraq was a better idea. ... The situation is foreboding as the new PM must form a coalition government. Allawi is less likely than the present PM- contesting the election's outcome-to lead Iraq down a path toward theocracy. He was the only person who ran that is not tied to Iran. Allawi will try to form a more secular, moderate government with Sunnis and other non-religious elements. While he has downsides, Al Malki and the others would have been a bigger challenge. This relationship going forward will ... More »

No. Rush Limbaugh wouldn't know a fact if it him on the nose. All I can say about someone who lives in the past and distorts what is real and trumpets what isn't.. A total sham/

A member's-only club? This man is shameless and filled with only ill intent. If he believes that climate change isn't real he should take a trip to the North or South Pole. You can visit the North on a cruise ship during the summer. The south is a little harder, but there is clear evidence from NASA which shows that Polar Ice is melting at a furious pace. No climate change, Rush? Wait till the summer temperatures start hitting 120. It is worth noting his "experts" are the very ... More »

Yes, This article pinpoints a tactic that terrorists plan to use against larger forces-like nation-states. The recent bombing in Afghanistan that killed several CIA officers is another example of while the immediate many provide a win, political beliefs don't change and in the aftermath, it only creates greater resentment of terrorists and their cause-a radical agenda that has little connection to true Islam and people of faith. The US will try to establish ties with an Islamic nation in the near term. and it makes good diplomatic sense. To turn away from billions of otherwise peaceful people is unwise.

This article points to a growing tread with terrorist groups. Decentralizing cells and compartment planning for each constituents a major strategy change in their violent campaign to affect political change. They are only making changes that are wise given their adversaries way of doing business.. The warfare strategist, Sun Tzu would applaud their efforts to make these alterations. The good new about terrorism is chance of a successful attack is is very low.. In the larger ... More »

This article shows a problem that has been brewing for some time and is a real threat to our nation,. The Chinese Military has worked on offensive cyber-warfare for years. No surprise to me but it likely is to you. The USG must take a serious look at its cyber-infrastructure. Not in good shape and built on a patchwork quilt of mismatched computers that literally cannot talk to one another or send email between certain agencies. A few years ago, when DHS was established, the GAO ... More »

India is courting both Russia and the US-wise diplomacy-to purchase weapons and support for indigenous defense industries. This has become a vexing problem in recent years- one with long-term ramifications. As indicated, China cannot ignore this ongoing situation and the US is defiantly “in the room” as a major player. This relationship is complex and its drivers as not as clear as they were puts India in a strong position.. No matter, India is aiding Russia in developing a ... More »
