People who want conversations monitored without warrants, who call dissenters traitors, and who want media ownership further consolidated in the hands of a few fascists think the Fairness Doctrine stifles free speech. How appropriate.
The headline is misleading, as you would expect from this propaganda source. Bush is only stumping to argue that his judgment should be trusted, and that people should ignore what's happening in Iraq until September. He's not "countering" the GOP dissent, he's just begging for more opportunity for his surge policy to work. If any of his previous policies had worked, we wouldn't even be discussing this. Since he's been so dishonest about the war so far, it doesn't seem he's "countering" any dissent at all. That dissent is, in fact, increasing enough that he feels threatened.
Perceptive assessment of humanity's faith-based willingness to kill anyone who disagrees with them. The author believes that the military should engage fundamentalist Muslims and discover their dreams. The problem with that is that their dreams don't include continued theft of their resources, or the subjugation-by-proxy that we intend for them. Like other fundamentalists, they just want to hurt those who are different enough to scare them.
Kondracke been wrong about Iraq from the beginning. The outcome he describes here is the inevitable result of the mismanagement of the war. This is the first time he's admitted that this will happen, instead of repeating platitudes about how great things are and will be if we just "stay the course". But he wrongly blames the Iraqis for this debacle, instead of the regime he propagandizes for.
These are welcome details about the methods of corruption for this government. While the story clearly details connections between the Republican election machine and it's affiliated non-profits, I'd like to see stories like this exposing the same parts in the Democrat's machine. By itself, this story could be portrayed as partison (it's not). If the same spotlight were shown on all of Congress, it would show just how corrupt the entire system is.
This is an opinion piece, not reporting. It shouldn't have to be informative, fair, or accurate. It is certainly none of those things. Instead, it is an awkward, poorly reasoned, and dishonest justification for why the US is not complying with the Geneva Convention, or American law.
A thorough examination of the campaign claims, by two people who are obviously liars. Since these claims are made because they work in elections, this seems a clear indication that this country won't elect honest politicians.
