It's a good story and I am disgusted with the killing of innocent men, women and children, but we have to remember who started this terrible invasion. People are right to protest and the United States has to be better about things and stop supporting Israel no matter what and the Bush administration has failed badly. Just another one of their failures

I am 76 years old and I have watched the Arab/Muslim countries try to practice genocide on Israel time and time again starting in 1948. The Jews made that country bloom and before that it was truly a miserable wasteland for the most part. The horrible leaders of Iran and Syria and Egypt and all of the countries surrounding Israel are to blame for this continual assault on Israel and they couldn't care less about the fate of the so called Palestinians. Jews are Palestinians ... More »

I agree with Tom McCarthy and this is the kind of story I have come to expect from the Los Angeles Times. Not a very good newspaper anymore. It is really pathetic journalism. It has been two weeks since Obama won the nomination and idiot writers and other pundits are aleady attacking him for not doing anything. What a joke these people are.

It's just ridiculous to write a story like this so soon after the election. What would this writer be saying about John McCain if he had won. I just don't trust any of the major media anymore, especially ths newspaper, nor the NYTimes of Washington Post either. Like everything else the media is even mediocre these days.

I'm glad he finally wrote something like this and wish he would have written it sooner. He's obviously a very intelligent man and a very moral one who was doing what he could to protest yet another criminal war America was involved in.

It was outrageous McCain and his stupid campaign tried to paint Ayers the way they did and eventually most thinking people realized what bs they were saying. Not brain dead Republicans of course and they are legion. This was just one of the stupidities pushed by that old fool and none of them stuck and it was great that decent Americans realized the Republican party is about dirt and mud and sleaze and wallowing in it to try and win elections. May their evil party disappear for good.

Not sure how good this is and it flys against everything I understand about Pelosi and the Republicans especially. Why is it always the Democrats who have to be bi-partisan? This story is really kind of propaganda about what is going to happen in the next congress. A leopard cannot change it's spots and Republicans will never be bi-partisan. They lost and deserved to.

Pelosi has got to be tougher and we don't need anti-Humanist Republicans to pass decent legislation for a change. Let them moan and whine and ignore them. After what Bush and all of those thugs did to America their party doesn't even deserve to last and people are deserting the bums in droves. .

Ha ha, I couldn't help giving this a perfect score. Of course anyone with brains knows the New Yorker has some of the best writing in the world ever! Nice cartoon too. It's not just simple minded people who can't seem to make up their own minds or have opinions of their own to show them how to act and what to do, it is also the quasi-idiots who prattle on about voting for the "man" instead of the party. It's probably a wonder America has lasted as long as it has and guess we deserve the crazies we have in the White House now. Probably too late fr even Obama to save us.

These people who cannot seem to make up their minds until the very last day they can vote practically should be put out of their misery, ha ha. Sorry, but they are ridiculous and there are millions of them. God help us!

This a good story, simply written and kind of tongue in cheek for that matter. If had more respect for the AP I would rate it higher. Talk about wishful thinking by poor old John claiming he can still somehow win the election! Ironic he is speaking of bigger government after the horrible excesses of the quasi criminal Bush administration the past eight years that has destroyed America's economy. It's shameful he is trying to flog that poor old half dead horse again. McCain has obviously realized he has lost and is now whining about Obama and what he had done and will do to make this country good again. A huge crowd of 2000 met him in Cedar Falls. I heard he had a turnout of 1000 in Albuquerque while Obama had ... More »

The worst thing about this story is that tens of millions of Americans will still vote for McCain after all the horrible things he and Bush and virtually all the Republican politicians have done to ruin America. Anyone who votes for McCain doesn't deserve to live in a free country.

Wow. What a great story and the fact it is written by a white former Republican male gives it even more credibility. Republicans must be crying in their beer reading this story, and it is mostly true what the writer says about Obama. He might not exactly be the second coming, but after the horrible creature in the White House now, Obama is a beacon of hope shining on America. I think he will be one of the best presidents we have ever had and he is obviously a uniter and just the fact of his race will make a tremendous different in our poor old country filled with racists and sexists in both major parties, but especially in the quasi-fascist Republican party. His intelligence and intellect dwarts any Republican ... More »

I am a Democrat and always have been and knew when I was a young man the Republican would never do anything for me and I was right. I was worried that a Black man could never become president in my lifetime and I am so happy that Obama will be president. This could have been fleshed out a lot more and I had never heard of this seemingly crazed woman before I saw her on MSNBC. I thought she was some kind of a horrid joke. Matthews obviously let this ridiculous woman rant and rave to show how most Republican politicians are these days. This woman is easily in the top five of the worst politicians in Congress. Especially disgusting because she is a from a place like Minnesota whose inhabitants should know better than to vote for a person like this. She would be right at home in WWII Nazi Germany. Minnesotans can redeem themselves by kicking this caricature of a woman out of Congress.

Watching this woman on television was very hard to do and could barely believe the vicious things she was saying. She is obviously crazed with hatred and anger towards Demorats and Republicans just cannot handle losing and they are losing big time this election. Wish their pathetic and criminal party would just go away for good. America will be a better place without Republicans.

It's a very well written story and there are tens of millions of people out there like Barbie who are having a hard time getting through their hard working lives. I agree with her about politicians, but I think Obama has proven he cares about ordinary Americans and McCain obviously doesn't. If Barbie is worried about Obama and said she has always voted for Democrats, why the sudden change? He is far from perfect, but McCain would be a disaster as president. Barbie apparently voted for Kerry and Gore and Clinton, et al, yet suddenly she doesn't trust the current Democratic candidate. I mean those guys weren't exactly poor! It just goes to show that even conservatives can get religion. I love the format of her site and happy it is doing well. I have never watched the Sludge report and never will. Had no idea how Arianna started out in life and she has really made it because of her intelligence and drive. I don't think this is very good journalism. Maybe if it was published by someone other than the LA Times, which I have very little respect for, I would put more faith in what these so called experts say. The fact is, any health care plan by a Democrat compared to a Republcan is going to be so far superior there will be comparison. Republicans just seem to hate people, except for their own precious hides and do not want most Americans to have decent health care. They proved that by ruining Hillary Clinton's plan for health care for Americans. Time and time again they attack Medicare and Medicaid and any decent bill for anything at all. It's a good story, supported by facts instead of suppositions and Republicans have more or less destroyed America. Nothing has gone right for most of us and we are suffering and for conservative/right wing newspeople to say we are going to elect another Republican for four more years of hell is ridiculous. John McCain is a caricature of the man he once was and he wasn't that great through most of his earlier life for that matter. He is just a sad, desperate old man and deserves to be retired. It appears to be a very in depth story about this incredible woman. She is a breath of fresh air and is one of only two really decent newscasters on Cable. Olberman paved the way for her and Rachel is just as good and maybe even smarter. Cable and networks are owned by big business companies, virtually all of them conservative Republicans and worse. The handwriting is on the wall and hopefully there will be more people like these two eventually, but I'm not holding my breath. Not sure if the Washington Post is back to honest reporting. Rich shows just how terrible McCain has become, not that he was a very good man to begin with. He seems to be proud of his vicious temper and brags about how much of a maverick he is. If he voted against Bush 90% of the time, then he would be a maverick. All I can say is that this is a very good story, written by a very experienced and honest writer. It is just incredible what is happening in this campaign for president. McCain is acting like a man who has truly lost his marbles. I think his demeanor at the debate shows he is unfit to be president, or to continue being a senator for that matter. He is an angry man near the end of his life and cannot be trusted to do the right things anymore. I almost feel sorry for Sarah Palin and you can't blame her for wanting to accept McCain's offer to be his vp. I am happy for Obama that McCain acted like a spoiled child, who wouldn't have made his high school debating team with the behaviour he showed last night. I hate to admit it but I have been reading the Inquirer rag they sell at check out stands, but then again that tabloid first broke the news about Edwards, which has proven to be true. This woman is not qualified for more than the first job she had as mayor of town, which doesn't require much acumen or intelligence. For tiny towns like Wasilla anyway. It is a very lightly populated state and being governor of Alaska, which seems to be a haven for people who just can't or won't make it in most of the United States doesn't give Palin any credibility either. I think most Americans are still puzzled by this woman and more importantly why McCain would select her. On the face of things she would be a good choice, but she is so far to the right on most issues and her personal life is rather suspicious and I think she hastily selected at the last minute because McCain wanted Lieberman and his handlers wanted Romney to run with McCain as vice president. What this guy is saying that a few years (or however many) service as mayor of a town with 7,000 people qualifies her to be vice president of the United States, a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Randolph is a hero and I'm sure most Black people know who he is. It's ironic JFK gave in and a huge crowd gathered to hear Martin Luther King and then almost immediately Kennedy was gone, assassinated by the same forces that would later kill MLK. One thing about Truman ending discrimination in the Armed Forces in 1948; it actually happened much later when Eisenhower became president. In the Fall of 1951 I was in the Air Force in Florida and there were literally no Black airmen on that base, but within a year they were in all the squadrons.

This story seems kind of a selective hand wringing one to me. Obama said at the fund raising recemtly for people to keep cool. He is too smart to lose this election and McCain is obviously going crazy because he knows he has already lost, or that is how I feel. These stories are good if they help to make sure the Democrats do not get too complacent. I know of several things being done for Obama I've never seen mentioned on tv or in any newspapers and doubt if they were ever done before in any presidential election. It's still early ... More »

It seems that writer has done his homework and it does show how much more money Obama can raise than the Republican guy. Obviously he was smarter than the Republicans not to accept public financing. It really doesn't matter that those types did accept it because they raise more than enough dirty money to make up any shortfalls. Republicans have historially won elections by buying them, not to mention running dirty campaigns like the one going on now. Obama is no John Kerry and I feel he will win this election. He had better or America is toast. I don't think the writer pointed out the various ways Obama can use his money though and there is some shilling in the article the Repugs. I guess even a quasi corrupt conservative ... More »

This is a good story, insofar as it goes, but as the articles says the guy is writing a book about soldiers who commit suicide. Perhaps those soldiers would have killed themselves anyway, but we will never know for sure and the callousness of the Bush administration in screwing soldiers who have served in combat is one of the reasons theys are doing that. The mainline media deserves a huge amount of blame. Maybe if we had honored the dead and taken care of the wounded there wouldn't be so many suicides. The author of this article really doesn't pin the blame on those responsible, and in way all Americans are partly to blame, especially the flag wavers who couldn't care less about the deaths of American soldiers. As a four year ... More »

This couldn't have been written any better and Alterman and "The Nation" are about as good as it gets. I was stunned by what Milbank wrote and think a lot of other people were too. Alterman should have pointed how conservative the Washington Post is now although the Post and the New York Times and other formerly great publications have sunken to new lows as far as political news is concerned. Watergate would have never become a big story if these newspapers were like they are now and Nixon would have ridden out his corrupt and criminal administration. Every time I read the worlds "liberal media" I get a good belly laugh. The quasi fascists who own virtually all of the major media are disgrace to a free country, or maybe should ... More »

Joe Conason is a very good writer and he he did make his point about John McCain and the people behind him. If a Democrat had used Wikipedia so blatantly, he or she would have been crucified by all the media, but once again McCain is given a free pass. The story shows that McCain and his handlers are indeed very stupid men and arrogant to boot. Or maybe just desperate to get their talking dummy to say something right away about the invasion of Georgia. I wonder if McCain had any idea where the speech came from and if he was a truly independent campaigner for president, he should have been outraged what his own people did to him. It was funny when McCain said in effect no country can invade another one with impunity. That alone ... More »

I guess my bias against the seemingly conservative Washington Post is well deserved. The editors are obviously Republicans who love John McCain, or that is my impression. Lots of good columnists and writers there, but they aren't the bosses. Polls are so ridiculous now, but even they show that McCain is in bad shape. I think the writer points that out pretty good. He is way off base about the race factor and I think the silliness of the McCain campaign is not illustrated either. Call me an optimist but judging from the tenor of the Republican campaign, they are already desperate to do anything to win. Same old Republicans, ha ha. Money, mistruths and mud and worse. I've known very few Republicans who are not racist, but admit a ... More »
