Pretty clear cut story without a lot of propaganda - just here's the new policy, here's what the old policy did, here's the advantages of the new one, & the disadvantages etc etc etc.

I am so delighted to see a well-rounded story on this issue that does NOT take sides!!!! Huzzah!

Good story & baffling question – why do so many Americans at the so-called grass roots level support these greedy, rich, callous CEOs & the mega-corporations which caused the financial melt-down in the first place? & Karl Rove’s behind it? He should be behind ... More »

I actually have a subscription to Discover Magazine so got to read this the old fashioned way. Very interesting & understandable as well. Plus insights on what makes a physicist interested in such obtuse, hard to imagine let alone study fields :d

Although I can't really dispute the facts in the article, the author uses way too many absolutes - even for an op ed. She's pushing a very PC oriented attitude guaranteed to offend anyone who feels compassion for alll the young southern boys who died in the Civil War, for instance. Balance goes out the window. At this point in our history we might remember that war as a failure of our politicians to convince half the nation that an abominable practice should be outlawed - which allowed the industrial half to use it as an excuse to go to war & take over...

Just gets scarier and scarier. Discovery Magazine is an excellent popular scientific journal, and the findings here are pretty much undisputed by the mainstream.

What she is saying, albeit in really wonderful & interesting language, is that blackness is more important that femaleness. I, personally, would like to see either Hillary or Obama win, but I'm rather more appalled that a woman has never been elected than that a black has not. After all, statistically speaking, there are more non-blacks in the country. BUT women make up 52% of our population!!!! We are the MAJORITY and STILL have minimal representation!!!@ So, I think Hillary being a woman is MUCH more radical than Obama being black. Period. Of course, neither fact really says didly squat about how they would be as President - we've had Hillary already, pretty much, & Obama sounds good.

This does NOT show the big picture. I love how conservatives will rip apart Bill, when the current regime is sooo much better at 'doing what ya gotta do' than even Slick Willie. At least Clinton does it with style, & without rancor or hate.

As another reviewer said, it's good that SOMEONE mentioned this. Our own 'news' sources are particularly silent. There is as much protest over this 'war' as over Vietnam, & from those OTHER than students, yet one would think only a small fringe group of people protest if all one watches is home-grown, corporate owned news. Bravo, BBC!

"Men make decisions; women make dinner." Sheesh. Well, I want a wife who's graduated from this program. Certainly sounds like the Home Ec program I had to study in HS in the 60s. This article does a good job of explaining why such ridiculous gender polarization still exists.

Excellent story. These Soviet-style tactics do NOT uncover the truth - they destroy the personality which makes it possible to make a prisoner incriminate himself to make his tormentors happy. So not only is this inhumane, but counterproductive! (at least for those interested in the TRUTH)

This is an excellent story and brings up a true dichotomy in regards to convictions/overturned trials/appeals etc. No matter how much spin on 'law & order' someone puts, if the guy DID NOT kill the cop, then the REAL cop killer is in effect being protected by that DA. So much for justice.

Well, this is certainly what Republicans hope will happen. I must say that it is entirely possible that GUILIANI could win the election, so that part of this commentary rings true. However, Cohen fails to explain WHY Rudy might win (which would be that Guiliani is so definitely not a part of this failed administration)
