I found it interesting that at the time when the "concern" about bench marks not being met arose the one pointed to as "needing" to be met most was the Hydrocarbon Act. This just verifies the real reason for the invasion and occupation. Cheney just wanted big oil to profit from the taking of Iraq's oil and GW thought war would be fun.

Makes you wonder why anyone would vote for any of these folks. If you want to know how they stand on helping people in need just look at their Katrina records. Which one of them said that the people in the affected area should rebuild it with all the money that has gone to private contractors? Oh, wait a minute that would be putting our money where their mouth is - can't do that - Heck of a job Brownie and the private contractors wouldn't approve. Anyway those people are doing just fine - right?

It is difficult to know what is really going on within the Legislative Branch. It seems that our elected representatives are only interested in two things - money and reelection. So the one thing that rings true in this editorial is that the Dems are trying to sink the Rebups election hopes using the war as the torpedo. The rest of this is just media/politics as usual. Oh ya - when Bush said, "it's a position I'd like to see us in.", he probably was thinking the oil law would be passed and his goal in Iraq acheived.

Good article which both informs and gives insight into the workings of the court and the administration which is not found in the mainstream media.

An interesting article but does not explore the "progress" that will satisfy Senitor Pete. Is he really interested in ending the war or is this his way of putting pressure on the Iraq government to pass the oil give away clause of "their" constitution? I wonder.........

Chaney is doing exactly what he set out to do when he appointed himself VP prior to the 2000 campaign/elections. He has no allegiance to anyone other than himself, his neocon co-conspirtators, and corporate sponsors. He is able to behave as he does because he has no oversight and will continue to do what he is doing because he will have no oversight. The congress has displayed no real willingness to live up to their responsibility as a check on the executive; the supreme court is stacked; the federal bureaucracy is full of cronies and ideologs; the media has little credibility; the religious community has no moral strength; and the American people are more concerned about the next American idol than the future of their country to care.

This is the standard corporate / republican arguement that you can read over and over when there is any opposition to FTA's they propose.

This story just confirms what we knew would happen when the Bush appointees took their places on the bench - a sharp right turn.

This article has some good information as a starting point to a discussion of US contracting in Iraq. Knowing the number of contract employees is intresting but leaves one with many questions regarding the contracting process and accountability.

Difficult to determine what is being said in this story. It seems to be either that Bush and those he consulted do not trust or believe in our justice system and have to decide for themselves whether Libby did anything wrong - or - they want to present an appearence of deliberating the merits/fairness of the Libby sentence to counter the arguement that Bush pardoned Libby as the reward for taking the fall on the outing of the CIA agent.

We have known that Big Dick has been George's daddy since he picked himself to take the job of VP. This story just reinforces that then drifts off onto another subject with little transition but concludes with a true statement of what this administration believes.

The story does not go on to answer/speculate about what will happen to the political hires in the years to come.
