It is great journalism because finally somebody in the mainstream media has yelled out that the "fair and balanced" faux News, "has no clothes"! Under Roger Ailes Fox News is a "political campaign - a 24/7 political campaign " for the Republican and Tea Party! And this quote says it all : The result of this concerted campaign of disinformation is a viewership that knows almost nothing about what's going on in the world"....A study by the University of Maryland reveals "ignorance of Fox viewers actually increases the longer they watch the network". The author goves lots of verifiable evidence in the article to support these quotes and that Ailes goal with the network is not to reveal facts but to push right wing and often ... More »

Definately high quality journalism. Any time a well respected member of the mainstream media takes on Republican propaganda pimps such as Murdoch and Ailes and exposes their partisan poisoning of news reporting it is a welcome defense of the once respected profession of journalism. Fox News has gotten away with a amazing con job on it's viewers. It's brainwashed these uninformed Republican voters that un-American hopes for failure of the government and demonizing attacks on the democratically elected President are somehow in their Republican self-interest and a higher form of patriotism.

This is really an irritating article and a classic example of why the Republicans with their hate talk and desire to delegitimize the President and have the country fail are controlling the debate in this country. Finally the Obama Administration pushes back at Republican attack lies and propaganda posing as news, being sponsored by supposedly politically neutral advertsiers, and one of the leading liberal voices The Nation, jumps on the criticize Obama wagon. No wonder liberals get their butts kicked by a minority party in the media. The right has Fox, and hundreds of right wing hate and failure talkers broadcasting GOP talking points 24/7 to about 40 million uninformed viewers and listeners, who take their voting orders from ... This is a topic of great concern for millions of people, and a threat to our consensus Democracy ,how the public airwaves can be used as an attack and propaganda arm of the Republican Party and be paid for by supposedly politically neutral national advertisers.

Because it is factual and offers an in depth report on a issue of the day the main stream media is being bullied to not examine or report in depth on. Instead the mainstream media is just publishing accusations with no factual push back.

No it is incredibly biased and superficial and taken out of context of the history of Hamas and it's provocations of Israel from Gaza.

Israel did not "assault" Gaza. They went after Hamas, in self defense, after Hamas started and continued to fire rockets into civilian areas of Israel to provoke the military response. Hamas is a terrorist group that denies Israel's right to exist and who's whole political and military strategy is the destruction of Israel. Israel warned civilians in advance they were striking in self defense and told them to get away from military targets. This report does not even hint at ... More »

It is based on facts period.

This is something you will never hear about on Fox News or from the right wing propaganda machine amidst their attacks on Obama as a Socialist. And if it is covered at all by the mainstream media it will be buried in the papers and just a blurb on the network news. Yet it is the results of 8 years of Republican rule, and if you are in the top 1%, it doesn't matter that the Bush neglect of regulating the economy and his unprecedented foreign policy failures have brought this country ... Yes it's quality journalism because it presents the speech objectively with no bias.

If the Palestinian people, the so-called refugees, had their choice in this matter they would in unison chose peace and prosperity and their own State under the logical and fair pre-conditions Israel laid out. But they have no viable future of peace and prosperity as long as Hamas and the current version of the PLO control them in Gaza and the West Bank and have zero concerns for their well being. All Hamas and the PLO want is the destruction of Israel and they don't care how many ... More »

yes, any exposure of the GOP and Coleman's contempt for the law and the electoral process is good journalism. There needed to be manymore articles about this ugly attempt by the Republicans to overturn the will of the people.

So if the court confirms Franken shouldn't he get his Senate term extended by 7months? If not the GOP manipulation of the law and the electoral process for their political self interest has won a crucial precedent for once again screwing the hapless and gutless Democrats.

It's an important story and needs to be publicized.

People need to know there are factual alternative news and opinion commentators to the 24/7 lies and GOP talking points being broadcast by bums such as Limbaugh and Hannity and Faux News. Thank goodness for MSNBC for realizing there are 68 million people that voted for Obama and until Schultz, Olberman and Maddow, not one of those 68 million had their voices heard on mainstream news or Cable news or any broadcast media. The right controls the political broadcast debate in this ... More »

Not really journalism but quality satire.

clever and a entertaining read, but disapponting to treat so light hearted. Two very big issues here. Only 25% of voters turned out and voted no on initiatives that by not passing are going to really hurt the idiots that voted no and the real idiots that didn't even bother to vote. They are all going to be crying when they possibly lose their jobs, or economic livlihoods by the deep cuts in government funding and services Arnold is going to make. The second big issue Stein didn't ... More »

Incomplete. It tells the where and the when but not the why a hardcore GOP partisan would cross his party?

I would like to know more about Olson's reasons. He's a hard core GOP/Bush partisan and one of the leaders of the Clinton lynch mob. Is he comming out of the closet? Does he have a gay offspring or family member? Or maybe he really sees this issue for what it is "equal protection" under the 14th ammendment. If that is the case, the gays ought to welcome him aboard.

It gives the ordinary reader insights into the talks that are not mentioned on Cable News or or most daily newspapers.

Bush's neglect of Afghanistan and Pakistan and his failed and incompetent decision to prioritize the wrong battlefield in Iraq and let our real enemies Al Qaeda and the Taliban re-group, re-arm, and recruit, in the tribal areas is the real reason AfPak is such a threat to our security today. No article written about this should fail to mention this. The failure of the media and the failure of the Democrats and the unprecedented cowardice of the Republican cheerleaders that accepted ... It is timely journalism, but too little too late.

The absolute biggest failure of the Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld and Rice, war on terror on the wrong battlefield in Iraq, was their financing and total neglect and denial of the re-birth of the Taliban and Al Qaeda in the tribal areas of Pakistan. Why wasn't McManus and the rest of main stream journalists writing about the roots of this current threat when it was happening on Bush's incompetent watch? All of a sudden because Obama is not in denial the media has picked up on this ... More »

Because it is truly objective and non-partisan. Even critical of Obama's politicizing over the rule of law.

This is a brilliant post. And it points out how political ends have become more important today then the rule of law. I'm a life long Democrat, but it infuriates me that Democrats in power such as Pelosi, who took impeachment off the table, and now Obama, who is backing away from investigating and prosecuting the Bush administration for overt criminality because of political expediancy are abusing their power and blindfolding justice.

It is quality journalism because it is factual, and just like Joseph Welch standing up to McCarthy's lies and asking him if he has any sense of decency, not one single Republican has stood up to the right wing propaganda machine of Fox News, and the hate talkers, Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, and the RNC and their lies and harmful and undemocratic attacks on the President and the will of the people. Never in the history of this country has a political party so totally disregarded facts and reality for their own partisan talking points, propaganda and re-writing of factual history. Never have they had the media reach for these lies and distortions as they have today with right wing cable news and am hate talk radio. This is ... More »

Yes it is quality journalism, because it is taking on and revealing unprecedented corruption in the previous administration which the mainstream press is incapable or under corporate oders not to expose to the level of the seriousness of the criminal intent.

I blame the Democrats for turning the other cheek and using the excuse the American public wants us to move forward rather than investigating , exposing and prosecuting the many crimes of Bush, Cheney and Rove.

It's a good observation on Limbaugh and a interesting opinion piece. As a op ed article worthy of a read and provoking thoughts it's excellent journalism.

Limbaugh was a failure at everything he did before he discovered right wing hate talk. Now he has a $400 million dollar contract and his talking points have become the values of the Republican voter base. So much so, that the leader of the RNC had to apologize to him. Limbaugh struck gold when Reagan removed the fairness doctrine, which allowed Limbaugh to flat out lie on the air with nobody to hold him accountable. He has spawned an army of clones such as Hannity and Savage with ... More »

This is not only good journalism but revealing, relevant and frightening. Not only did this pre-emptive disruption of Constitutional rights happen so openly, but it shockingly didn't even get mentioned by any of the media. If it wasn't for Amy Goodman's arrest and her producer, it would not have even been mentioned on the progressive talk shows and blogs. What has Bush done to this once great Democracy?

Who knows how many other covert examples of criminal corruption the Bush Administration was involved in while Rove was a special advisor to the President? Even Scott McClellan a Bush insider called Rove a lier and one who put the "Permanent campaign" (partisan politics) above the truth and the law. What is most compelling and frightening about this great investigative journalism is the bigger picture of how our Justice system and election process has been criminally corrupted by Republican partisan appointments directed by Rove.

One glaring mistake in the article. The mortgage securities Fannie Mae and Freddie Mc unload on wall street are guaranted by them, unlike Countywide and other banks. Thus , if the loans are defaulted on by the borrowers, Fannie Mae and Freddie have to make them good. They have around $5 trillion out in these guaranted mortgage loans sold as securities. This is why this is so critical, even the government couldn't afford to cover this amount. However, because the loans we're gauranted one can only hope the people that qualified for them were scrutinized much closer for their ability to pay then those that qualified for Countrywide type loans with "stated" not proven income, and negative amoritization loans, where you just add ... What the story fails to do is put the blame for our faltering economy on the Republican Administration where it belongs. It fails to point out how "trickle down" has not worked, just as it didn't work when Reagan was President. It fails to point out the politics of our severe economic downturn. How the Bush/Cheny secretive energy policies have led to these high energy costs. How Bush lied in 2004 re-election campaign about job creation and never mentioned how the whole consumer economy was bouyed by re-financing and false home appreciation values. And it fails to mention that McCain has no answers for re-invigorating the economy and the Democrats do.

This is not journalism or reporting it is pure pro Hamas and Hezbollah propaganda. If Ms Cobban was in a country run by either of her political ideals, Hamas and Hezbollah, she would be eliminated, if she dared to write something like this that didn't agree with their extremist Islamic dogma. Let me explain it simply for Ms Cobban. If Hamas or Hezbollah had the military might of Israel..........Where Israel and all it's population once stood would be scorched earth! There is no negotiating with lunatics who control their own people and gain political clout through sheer force and bribery. And who's admitted purpose is to eliminate you. It basically repeats in print all the points McCain made in his campaign speech, with zero analysis. The story read like a campaign ad for John McCain for President. It also exaggerated the size of the audience by calling it a "packed" auditorium. When it was in reality a few hundred Republicans. It made no mention of McCain's "flip flopping" on issues he previously supported Bush and now is opposing.
