Obama's Minister Committed "Treason" But When My Father Said the Same Thing He Was a Republican Hero
this commentary questions the legitimacy of Rev Wright critics in regards to statements made by an evangelical of the past. A short, to the point editorial focused on broad interpretations of the words of very different authors. He fails to point out that Rev Wrights words were spoken as Schaeffers words were written which are always more considered.
This is a good story to breach the morality of this aspect of technological warfare. However, I wish to read a story that tells in detail the facts that much of the "intelligence" is gathered through torture; the separation of these "warriors" behind these computers who carry out these strikes; the perhaps purposeful use of video game like scenarios carried out in the real world to produce these deaths and destruction; the use of cell phones as missile guidance devices which is frequently done. I'd like to read an article which also discusses the illegality of these strikes as they most certainly violate the articles of our treaty obligations after WW II- treaties which yielded 50 years of relatively peaceful coexistence, and ... A pretty good editorial piece with a good sprinkling of facts. I wish he had written more on the oil part of the story since officials are beginning to admit the importance of stealing the oil in the prosecution of the war.
This story is a profile which is about 90% positive of the subject, McKinnon. There are a couple of unsourced negative comments which are broad and nondescript. To my thinking, it leaves a good many holes: How can such a "good" guy participate in some of the most blatant and gross violations of fair play we have seen over the past 3 elections? The story doesn't begin to answer this nor does it explain much of the specifics of his admittedly critical role in these elections. To me, this reads like a resume from someone who wants to be your friend. (BlaH!)

this is a short article regarding the first draft of 'evidence' supporting the attack on Iraq. At the end it has examples of how the original was changed to enhance its effect on public opinion presumably.
I gave this a 5 on "recommendation", however, it is an opinion piece with very little real or new information. However, it is an opinion we don't see at all in the MSM, so it is worth reading for this very reason. It is short, too.
The story accurately describes the external realities of this complex struggle for land. Land not in Israel, but the occupied West Bank. The author quickly, but accurately describes many but not all the challenges that face this farmer in his ancestral homeland. However, this type of candor rarely exists in American media on this subject up until now. On this contentious subject, the author accurately describes the viewpoints of both his Palestinian-Christian and Jewish Settler subjects without embellishment or stereotype. Well Done Mr. Boudreaux!
Factcheck.org always worthwhile information. The usual in depth discussion and criticism of current quotes and rhetoric, this time Rommney vs. McCain on immigration.
a good article explaining why companies need to keep record profits in place by cutting out health coverage for those under medicare.
one sided article that has some sources attacking global warming alarmist without defining what it is. Equate global warming proponents as a cult and says they've avoided debate without any specification on who was debating what. Another unthinking hate piece designed for unthinking mass consumption. Enjoy!
countries are drawing battle lines in the cyberworld. This is the whole of this story. No quotes, no experts, no real background
Too bad there isn't time to really source this story and provide a bit more depth since its only a current news interview. It does give some background into back room manipulations from lobbyists - a short history of energy lobbying would have been helpful. However, I'm very interested in what is keeping us from moving forward on energy., and this story provides a much needed start. We need more news orgs to deal with this topic.
a worthwhile read for someone interested in the historical perspectives of recent voter laws. It would have been better if they'd given a bit further back to HAVA and the forces and debates surrounding that debacle.
This story is short in every category. No sourcing of scant facts, a very narrow perspective (only 3 individuals are named as sources, a husband, wife and neighbor). A NYT typical disconnect between the title and the substance (how do a couple people living in terror- afraid to be killed for driving at night- amount to the city of Baghdad exhaling?) The story is so narrow it hardly provides any info but it may give a glimpse into current daily life in the neighborhood of Dora.
This really isn't a news item as much as it is a commentary on the state of the print media. It does have quite a few historical illustrations and their sources which caused me to rate it highly because of its relevance to our current situation. People should read more on subjects as this to promote critical thinking and participation in government and media.
This story would have got a 2 from me if the subject matter were not so pertinent to our world today. The major problems with it are the lack of sources - only one source is cited, Forbes. Real life examples are needed to illustrate convincingly the 3 step process he describes as the accumulation of wealth. The conclusions are correct in my view but lack the credibility one would get from skeptics if more sources and examples from the past were used. If the author had used multiple examples and varied sources, he would have enough info for a book on economic history of the past 50 years, and I think would make a worthy project to open the argument for changes in economic policy.
this story is well sourced but focused exclusively on one incident in Iraq. Lacks depth into the resoning why the story took so long to break, but at least gives these reasons a brief look. Very little leading adjectives by the author. This is appears to me to be professional journalism
